Greetings,
On behalf of The Neurological Institute of New York, George M. Steinbrenner III, and the New York Yankees, I respectfully invite you to “throw out the first pitch” at the 6th Annual Neurosurgery Charity Softball Tournament. The event takes place in Central Park on Saturday, June 6th, 2009, and will include teams of neurosurgeons from twenty of the nation’s top medical centers, including Columbia, Harvard, Yale, Alabama, Florida, Barrow Neurological Institute, Penn State, Cornell, Duke, Mt. Sinai, Thomas Jefferson, Emory, Johns Hopkins, University of Pennsylvania, NYU, University of Utah, Northwestern, Dartmouth, and Albert Einstein. Doctors will compete to support The Columbia University Pediatric Brain Tumor Research Fund, a charity dedicated to raising awareness about pediatric brain tumors and to improving their diagnosis, prognosis and treatment.
Prior attendees include Brandon Jacobs of the New York Giants and Jeremy Schaap of ESPN. Acceptance of this invite would require you to attend the event for only 5-10 minutes to “throw out the first pitch” at any time between 10am-7pm. Last year Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg issued a proclamation stating this date to be “Neurosurgery Charity Softball Tournament Day” in the City of New York, with coverage by ESPN and ABC. We are excited with the prospect of your involvement in this important event that has raised nearly $200,000 to date. Additional information regarding sponsorship and tournament logistics can be found at www.ColumbiaKidsNeuro.org.
Once again, on behalf of the entire Department of Neurosurgery at Columbia University, I extend my most sincere gratitude for your support. It is only through such efforts that we will be able to make a significant difference in the lives of these children. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you need more information or have any questions. I would certainly welcome the opportunity to discuss this matter further with you.
Sincerely,
